language filter has a reason yes, but the main reason ppl get banned for language is when they go around it, not providing examples, we all know what i mean, but "avoiding the filter" is against the UELA or whatever...

ive had a few guildies take 3 day vacations for language, personally i havent, cause i tell it as it is, no abbreviating here, filter me all u want....

my only bans have been for character names, some ppl have no sense of humor i guess....

I don't see why anyone would get worked up at all about this. After a brief skim over the 4 pages of this thread, not one person here that I have seen has given an account of being banned for "inappropriate language."

If their own expressed rules aren't enough to quell the fears, the replies to this thread alone should be proof that Anet makes the distinction between socially-acceptable cursing and verbal abuse. For all the reports that have been filed for casual cursing, not one of them seemed to have actually resulted in action taken. It does not matter if you get reported, if you aren't verbally abusing anyone or being a filthy racist using the N-word you have nothing to worry about… and even that probably only results in a ban in context-specific situations.

The language filter is great in theory but can snip out valid parts of words.

For example, Damned Clerics become ****ed Clerics and Cockatrice Staff becomes ****atrice Staff.

I've never been banned.

I was in The Kodash Bazaar American District 1 a couple of nights ago and some people were making fun of Jewish people. That's when I made my first report.

And that's the key. I see people swearing up a storm in RA and ToB all the time, non-stop. Mostly, it's just little kids being dumb and I don't run around wearing out the top row of letters on my keyboard because of it. However, I do routinely report people who are using "offensive" language, not because of the language, but because they're specifically using it to be disruptive in chat or abusive toward another player.

People whine on here about being banned all the time, but I've never seen a case where all the details came to light and it was an unfair ban. ANET seems pretty fair about it, IMHO.

QFT.

The chat filter is there for a reason. I just like to see all the little kiddies trying to be all big and type *giggle* naughty words using a ridiculous number of dots and spaces to get it past the filter.

Lol yeah... the filter acts weird with items - the only reason I've turned it back up is to laugh at how it works. I know they had filter out words like "spear" too (one of my friends had a name like "Ho <something> Spear" and ALL the name was censored.

I wonder if it's not a tradition to insult Jews at Kodash - everytime I land there that's what they're doing, and it -really- annoys me. At least there's the report feature now.

i dont use the report system, it encourages Guildwars comunity to act like the runescape comunity.

i never swear in a online game, if something goes wrong i just say some curses in real life, doesnt bother anyone.

i cant tell you how many times ive been reported for that, but i personally dont think it should be a reportable offense considering there is a chat filter. If you dont like swears, turn it on. simple really.

Most people I've talked to get banned when they taunt people they beat in Hero Battles so the guys get annoyed and report them.

No.
As bad as my potty mouth is, I'm generally not stupid enough to say something in local that I know is more than likely going to offend someone.

For everyone who keeps saying that, Gaile has already posted way back when that that isn't an excuse and it doesn't give you the right to say something inappropriate.

The filter is there to protect the kiddies/easily offended, but that does not make it okay to talk like that.

That being said however, I do cuss (both in game and at the game) and I have never been reported or even had anyone ask me to do otherwise.

I have been reported for swearing at people, but have never been banned. Honestly, if you have not swore at someone or gotten pissed at some guy in this game you have not experienced it fully

I've had people warn me a couple times, but I have conditioned myself with a filter. Any curse words are translated into: "Bloody flaming monkey poo!!"

No exceptions.

Makes for some interesting situations.

Hmm guy just told me he reported me then set me to ignore.

Didnt say one bad word so dont get how that will be verbal abuse. All I did was call him immature and told him to grow up because he was talking shit in RA an dreported a guy for calling him a bitch.

I cant get banned for that can I?
